History

On 1st March 1965 an official order approved Dr. Joaquim Pedro Rasteiro´s petition to install a printing and writing paper factory in either the district of Aveiro or Coimbra.

Consequently, on 24th November 1965 the incorporation deed of Inapa - Indústria Nacional de Papéis, S.A.R.L., was signed by its founders: Joaquim Pedro Rasteiro, Vasco de Quevedo Pessanha, Eduardo Rodrigues de Carvalho, Eduardo Furtado, Carlos Marques de Sousa, Vasco Luís de Castro, António Brandão Veludo, Mário de Oliveira, Justino Pereira da Cruz, Álvaro Braga da Cruz, Fernando Cruz and SOCEL - Sociedade Industrial de Celuloses, S.A.R.L..

Inapa was constituted as a producer of white writing and printing paper, and was the first national large-scale paper factory.

Situated in Setúbal its fabril unit was born semi-integrated with a pulp producing company, SOCEL, which was nationalized in 1975 and gave rise to what is now Portucel.

Inapa remained a paper producer until February 2000, when it sold its industrial assets and focused on its paper distribution activity, which started in 1978.

More recently, Inapa expanded its operations to two new business areas, packaging and visual communication.

Important dates

1978 - Acquisition of J. Gaspar Carreira (Portuguese paper distributor and envelope manufacturer).

1980 - Shares quoted on the Lisbon Stock Exchange.

1987 - The Group is restructured by transforming Inapa into a holding company. Start of Edições Inapa (Portugal).

1988 - Capital investment in Papelaria Fernandes (Portugal).

1989 - Acquisition of Sacopel (Portugal).

1991 - S.D.P. (Portugal) is founded.

1992 – Paper distribution is expanded, now with 10 paper warehousing and distribution companies, of which 5 are in Mainland Portugal, 2 in the Azores, 2 in Spain and 1 in England.

1998 - Acquisition of the Mafipa Group (France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Switzerland) in June. Acquisition of Tavistock Paper Sales (England). S.D.P. installs a robot in the main warehouse (Sintra/Portugal).

1999 - IDISA is founded (Spain). Acquisition of Lucchetti Decart (Italy).

2000 – Work starts on the New Logistics Centre in Madrid. Papéis Inapa is sold to Papercel/Portucel (25th February), Inapa now focuses on paper distribution. Acquisition of Papier Union, the 3rd largest German paper distributor. Inapa extends is operations to 10 countries. Acquisition of Buropapier (Belgium).

2001 - Launch of first own pan-european brand INAPA-TECNO.

2002 -Introduction of the first Inapa Group e-commerce site, www.papel.online.pt. Commencement of operations of the new IDISA logistics center, in Leganés (Madrid).

2004 - Acquisition of Baumgartner - Swiss Merchant.

2005 - Acquisition of Olympia - Belgium Merchant.
 
2006 - Acquisition of HTL - Verpackung GmbH and Hennessen & Potthoff GmbH (packaging companies in Germany). Acquisition of Logistipack, SAS (packaging company in France).
 
2008 - Acquisition of Complott Art-Vertrieb, GmbH (visual communication company in Germany).
 
2009 - Start up of Inapa Angola - Distribuição de Papel, SA.

2010 – Acquisition of Burgo distribution business in Spain, becoming the third largest merchant in Spain.

2011 – Divestment of Tavistock Paper Sales (United Kingdom).
